Against Newcastle United, Manchester United kept their first clean sheet under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but overall, they have been very poor at the back this season.
Therefore, the Red Devils need to splash the cash to sign a top defender in the winter transfer window.
As per recent reports going on in the media, United are heavily linked with Porto defender Eder Militao and the latest update seems positive.
n 2nd January, Correio da Manha came up with a headline ‘United attacks Brazilian Eder Miliato’. In that report, the Portuguese source have stated that the Old Trafford club want to strengthen their back-line and they are interested in luring the highly rated center half.
The interesting point mentioned by Correio da Manha is that Militao’s current contract with Porto has a release clause of €50million (£45million), however, there is a clause in the deal which allows him to leave for just €42.5million (£38million) this month.
The Samba starlet joined Porto only six months back for a fee of just (AS)
€7million and he has impressed enough to attract interest from top clubs.
The Primeira Liga giants could earn a decent profit from the sale of their prized asset in the January transfer window but in all fairness, they would want to hold on to him.
Porto currently have a four point lead in the league and they will face Roma in the R16 of the Champions League next month.
As far as United are concerned, the deal to sign Militao seems beneficial from all aspects and Woodward must move quickly. The Red Devils really need to sign a quality defender to shore things at the back and they would have the financial power to pay £38million for someone as good as the former Sao Paulo center back.
Moreover, the youngster, who made his senior international debut for the Selecao in September 2018, will turn 21 this month and he has the potential to become one of the best defenders in the world. In few years, his value could reach over £60million.
