Nigerian Referee escapes being assassinated after Kano Pillars fans attacked him in Lagos after their fixture against Enugu Rangers (video)

0

A Nigerian referee escaped death yesterday at the Agege Stadium, Lagos when Kano Pillars fans attacked him after their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Super Six fixture against Enugu Rangers.

Both teams battled to a 1-1 draw in the first match of the day in the ongoing Super-Six, but the violence that greeted the match will be in the front burner rather than the scoreline, Premium Times reports.

Fans later went on a rampage when they encroached into the pitch of the Agege Stadium, throwing dangerous objects at match officials.

Kano Pillars had taken the lead in Monday’s encounter when their captain, Rabiu Ali curled in a beautiful free kick in the 54th minute.

Pillars had a shout for a penalty kick afterwards but the centre referee, Quadri Adebimpe waved it off to the dismay of the players and the fans who started getting agitated.

The situation turned worse when Rangers few minutes to the end of the game were awarded a penalty. The fans started hurling objects into the field.

While six minutes added time was given, Rabiu Ali’s free-kick was delayed due to the fan’s disturbances and soon after the kick was made, the referee sounded the final whistle which infuriated the Kano Pillars captain.

Ali, one of the veterans in the NPFL, went straight to the referee barking at him and seemed to be asking him to show his stoppage time.

With the atmosphere getting further tensed, Referee Adebimpe had to run for his life due as the fans went after him.

Over N10 million has been paid in fines by clubs for the violent conduct of their fans during the regular season.

It is yet to be seen how the League Management Company, organisers of the league will react to this latest show of shame.

Pillars after four games are top on the log in the Super Six with eight points.

0

Head of state, President Muhammadu Buhari has assured the nation that security and law enforcement agencies are capable of safeguarding the country, its people and property.

Responding to concerns raised by a delegation of Zamfara Advocacy Group on Monday during an audience at the State House, Abuja, the President said the military and the police have been taking drastic measures to check the activities of some local elements threatening the peace of the communities, including preventing farmers from going to their farms.

“I assure you, I get daily reports from people in the field and traditional rulers. I also meet regularly with the leadership of the security agencies, and they have been directed to deploy their personnel to secure the society,” President Buhari said.

Describing as “unfortunate”, the “failure of local leadership in intelligence-gathering” the President enjoined community and traditional leaders to monitor closely the activities of people in their domain with a view to assisting law enforcement agencies to secure the communities.

Commending the new governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, for being proactive in addressing the security challenges, the President urged royal fathers to go back to their cultural roles.

Reason why couple’s wedding was suspended – Deeper Life church finally explains

0

The Deeper Life Bible Church has revealed that the couple’s wedding in Bayelsa which was suspended reportedly because they ate from the same plate is not as true as it’s being read on social media.

According to the Church, the intending couple actually engaged in immoral activities and thus the reason why their wedding ceremony was suspended.

The church issued the below statement,

The church has a Marriage Committee that supervises marriage right from knowing the will of God, to obtaining parents’ consent, marriage registration to church wedding.

When the intending couples were told to go to Brass Region in Bayelsa state to obtain the man’s parents’ consent, they spent several days together before coming back to Yenagoa. They slept on the same bed and engaged in moral acts which amounted to sin and against the marriage process of the Church. They felt what they had done was bad and reported themselves to their pastors.

They were subsequently placed on discipline by the State Overseer. After some period, reporting that they have repented, the courtship was allowed to commence again.

As preparation for wedding was going on, it was discovered that they again engaged in acts contrary to the laid down procedure by the marriage committee of the church. This is after they had been disciplined earlier and warned not to engage in acts that will impact negatively on their proposed marriage.

When the Marriage Committee put a direct question to them based on the latest development, the man accepted their error. It is important to note here, that the church stands on holiness and members have been consistently admonished to “abstain from all appearance of evil. It is not also true that the parents pleaded with the pastor to wed them on the 8th June, 2019.

The summary is that they behaved themselves unseemingly, and were in haste to enjoy the benefits the church and God allow only married couples to enjoy.”

Deeper Life Church suspends couple’s marriage for eating from same plate

0

A Twitter user has revealed that a couple’s marriage was cancelled for eating from the same plate a week to their official wedding.

He wrote;

So I’m going to be narrating a funny story that was shared with me by a friend of mine who went for the wedding of his cousin that was cancelled on Saturday 8, 2019 at Okutukutu, Bayelsa by Deeper Life Bible Church @dclmhq they attend

I don’t criticize pastors or churches, but this is overwhelming and annoying

So after all the preparation for wedding, the State Overseer of Bayelsa state called the chairman marriage committee of the church to suspend the wedding.

The message sent was “YOUR WEDDING IS SUSPENDED. TWO OF YOU ARE PLACED ON DISCIPLINE.” This was sent on Friday during the traditional marriage.

Please who does this? After all the preparation for wedding.

So the family of the bride drove to the State Overseer house to beg him to allow the wedding hold. The mother of the bride was rolling on the floor crying & begging the pastor. But the man refused to answer and walked out on them. Even Jesus Christ never did like that to sinners.

So after crying, they went back home and the bride almost ran mad. And this is another reason that can lead to depression & I can provide @MentallyAwareNG contact to one of the family members to help connect the bride to a psychologist

The wife and husband said the chairman of the marriage stated that the reason why Bayelsa State Overseer suspended the wedding was because the couples to be ate in same plate a week ago. Which the State Overseer said it’s wrong & should never happen until after wedding day.

I want deeper life @dclmhq Bible Church General Overseer pastor Kumuyi to look into this and call Bayelsa’s State Overseer to explain why he purposely decided to spoil this family’s day of Joy

Nigerian Catholic priest sued by a 68-year-old American woman who he allegedly raped

0

An 68-year-old American woman has sued a Nigerian Catholic Priest for alleged rape.

Retired American teacher, Kathy Coll has sued a Nigerian Catholic Priest, Fr. Cyprian Duru for allegedly raping her in 2016. In the 13-count suit, Coll also sued the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, Bishop David Zubik, and St. Teresa of Avila Roman Catholic Parish, her Ross Township church.

Kathy Coll was a retired high school English teacher and Eucharistic minister who sang in the choir, taught CCD classes and volunteered countless hours for her church.

According to Coll, her life changed for worse after the sexual assault by Father Duru, who was studying at Duquesne University and assisting her North Hills parish.

The widowed mother of two adult sons said she still has trouble processing how the Catholic Church responded two years ago when she reported she had been raped in 2016 by a Nigerian priest.

According to a report by triblive.com, her complains charges that the diocese failed to properly vet Duru before assigning him to a parish where she and others were asked to give support and assist to a predator priest from a region where clergy were known to prey on older women. She alleges that the assault occurred in December 2016. The suit was published by other Pittsburg media including CBS News and WTAE Pittsburgh.

“I spent 2 ½ years trying to get someone to listen to me,” Coll said. “No one was listening to me, so I decided it was time to say I want to make something happen here.”

She alleges that the church heard complaints from others about Duru’s inappropriate behavior toward older women, failed to act quickly, and later neglected to explain why Duru was removed from ministry after she reported her assault.

Her complaint bears echoes of hundreds of allegations in last summer’s Pennsylvania grand jury report that detailed decades of church inaction against priests accused of child sexual abuse in Catholic dioceses across the state.

Coll’s suit details her account of how Duru — whom she agreed to tutor in English and occasionally transported to Pittsburgh — began taking frequent walks through her neighborhood that fall. On Dec. 11, 2016, Coll said Duru stopped by her home on the pretense of giving her a Christmas card. She said when she offered him a cold drink, he followed her to her family room, overpowered her and assaulted her as she screamed for him to stop.

Duru, who remains at Duquesne on a student visa, could not be reached for comment.

Coll’s lawyer, Pittsburgh attorney Sharon Smith, said the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office declined to prosecute Duru.

Although Coll underwent a rape kit exam at UPMC Passavant hospital that showed evidence of intercourse, she said authorities said it would come down to a “he-said-she said” case with Duru claiming it was consensual.

A spokesman for Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala told the Trib prosecutors met with Ross Township Police, Coll and her attorney to go over the case.

“After reviewing the evidence and the investigation, we informed the victim and her attorney that based on the evidence as it exists, we cannot move forward with any charges,” said Zappala spokesman Mike Manko.

An award-winning teacher who once led active outdoor tours with her late husband, Ed, Coll said she’s reclaimed her life after months of therapy and prayer.

But she worries that a lack of diligence on the part of a church struggling to fill pulpits could expose others to danger.

“The crux of our complaint is the church’s failure to vet Duru,” said Smith. “He is a predator and shouldn’t have been here.”

A spokesman for the Pittsburgh Diocese insisted the church was never made aware of any other allegations against Duru and has been supportive of Coll.

“When the Diocese of Pittsburgh learned of the allegation against Cyprian Duru, he was immediately removed from the parish where he was in residence and his faculties were suspended,” said diocesan spokesman the Rev. Nicholas Vaskov. “He cannot function as a priest or dress in clerical attire. He is not in active ministry in the Diocese of Pittsburgh.”

He said the diocese also alerted Duru’s bishop in Nigeria of the allegations. Duquesne University also was alerted to the allegations.

University President Kenneth Gormley said Duru is still a student at the university, but is not and has not been associated with Duquesne’s Spiritan fathers.

Gormley said he has no knowledge of Duru’s residence and declined to comment further, citing federal student privacy protections.

Vaskov said many priests from around the world have traveled to Pittsburgh to study at local universities and have taken up residence in local parishes.

Visiting priests are required to undergo FBI fingerprinting, a state criminal background check and child abuse clearance and must complete Protecting God’s Children and Mandated Reporter training and sign the diocesan Code of Pastoral Conduct, Vaskov said.

He said the Diocese also requires a reference from the sending bishop that the priest is in good standing and faces no allegations of inappropriate behavior.

“Fr. Cyprian Duru was one such student at Duquesne University,” Vaskov said. “He had residence in a parish where he would assist in the celebration of the sacraments. His bishop testified to the fact that he was in good standing as a priest before he took up residence.”

Nigerian Lady left in shock after she was stopped from entering a government office because of her ”indecent dress”

0

A Nigerian lady has taken to social media to rant over how she was denied entry in a government officer over what the management termed as indecent dressing.

The lady identified as Ifeyinwa, although didn’t specify the exact parastatal, stated that the security personnel at the gate insisted her dress was too short and she would not be allowed to proceed to the office premises.

She wrote:

I was refused entry into a government office today because my dress was “indecent”. This is the dress I was wearing.

This same government office requires married women to submit a letter of PERMISSION from their husbands to travel. This is Nigeria.

I asked the security guard what was so indecent about my dress, and he said it was short. An older lady wearing a fitted dress that was the same length as mine walked interjected, I told her not to bother and I left.

She then further decried the rate at which women are being disrespected in the country

That’s how my defender would’ve been kicked out too. Let’s not pretend that women have any rights or are treated with respect in this country. ESPECIALLY young, single women. At this point, I can’t even get angry

I have lost weight since assuming office a week ago – Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu

0

New governor of Lagos state, Babjide Sanwo-Olu, says he is already feeling the heat of governance as he has lost some weight since he assumed office over a week ago on May 27th.

The governor said this to State House correspondents after a private meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, shortly after the expanded security council meeting on Friday, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

While speaking to the newsmen, Sanwo-Olu said governing a state like Lagos state is by no means a tea party. Speaking, the governor said:

“It is not a tea party. You don’t sleep and wake up and the traffic has gone down; you don’t sleep and wake up and there is no rain or say that you have resolved Apapa gridlock; it’s real. So, it is something that one has psychologically prepared for. The best thing you can do, is to make sure that you are not about looking for what the other person did. It is for Lagosians to see you do what you promised to do for them. And if you don’t do it from your office; you have to do it on the road; you have to do it where the issues are, so that people will truly know that you mean business. In one week, I will say I have lost weight; I will probably still lose a bit more, but I think it is worth the job” he said.

Nigerian Judge accused of ‘slapping’ Redeemed church pastor over noise pollution in Ondo State, issues official statement

0

Justice Oyebisi Folayemi Omoleye, a presiding judge of the Court of Appeal has issued an official statement to address the reports containing video and photos showing where she allegedly slapped and confronted a Redeemed church pastor over noise pollution in Ondo State.

Speaking through her lawyer, Okedinachi Nelson, Esq, the judge in an official statement said, ‘a member of the RCCG Glory Tabernacle Church, IjapoEstate, Akure assaulted a sitting justice of the court of Appeal Akure division on Wednesday, 5th of June, 2019‘.

The statement reads in full:

In the past 48 hours the social media has been awash with the fake and concocted story of how Honourable Justice O.F. Omoleye, J.C.A. purportedly invaded the Redeemed Christian Church of Glory Tabernacles, Ijapo Estate, Akure on the 5th of June, 2019 during a church Service.

The fake news further stated that the Honourable Justice attacked an aged woman who fainted and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Nothing can be farther than the truth. The church in question is illegally built on a canal right beside the residence of the Honourable Justice where she has been living since 1984 before the foundation of the church was laid.

Ever since the emergence of the said Redeemed Church in Ijapo Estate, which is largely a residential estate, it has constituted unabated nuisance to the annoyance of the entire neighbourhood. The honourable Justice through her solicitors in a letter dated 22nd of May, 2019 and addressed to the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, complained about the noise and environmental nuisance constituted by the church.

The said letter unequivocally stated that such noise amounted to a breach of the honourable Justice’s right to quiet possession/ enjoyment of her property. The said judge, who is a widow of almost 30 years, has had continued engagements with the church (which is situated on an illegally acquired plot beside her property) in relation to the constant disturbance of peace both during the daytime and at nighttime every day of the week.

Despite various attempts to mediate peace terms with the church, the church failed severally to keep its side of agreements made. The Justice’s lawyer informed the church of the court action initiated against them on the public disturbance issue, and hence the church Pastorate and Members have been jittery.

In response to the her Lordship’s Solicitors letter, Pastor Dele Oyesola, Pastor-in-Charge of the RCCG, Ondo Province wrote a letter delivered on 6th of June, 2019 at the office of His Lordship’s Solicitors requested for date, time and venue for a meeting between the Church and the said Solicitors in respect of the acts of nuisance complained of. It is pertinent to note that in the letter written on behalf of the church, no reference was made to any of the allegations contained in the fake news being circulated by the church.

On the day in question, the Honourable Justice intended to have a peaceful stay at home but the usual nuisance and uncontrolled noise from the church would not allow her. On the instruction of her lawyer and in furtherance of her intention to gather evidence to present to Pastor Dele Oyesola, Pastor-in-Charge of the RCCG, Ondo Province at the meeting he proposed, the Honourable Justice, decided to take pictures of wares displayed for sale along and on her property , suddenly, one of the church members attacked her from behind, punched her and broke her phone. It took the intervention of her orderly to prevent them from injuring her. The other members came out in their troops cursing her and threatening to attack her.

It is unfortunate that a renowned church like the RCCG would go to extent to sponsor fake news against a sitting Justice of the Court of Appeal who has done nothing wrong but to ask that she be allowed to live in peace. We are all not oblivious of the nuisance that churches and other places of worship constitute in residential areas.

This fake story gained traction simply because the church is all out to harass and bully her. Rather than continue in this campaign of calumny against her, the RCCG should purge itself of the unabated nuisance particularly because the entire Ijapo Estate residents are tired.

Okedinachi Nelson, Esq

Residents of a community in Ikorodu beat up a man who was found hiding in the ceiling of someone’s apartment.

The residents gave the man serious beating, disfiguring his face after he was found on Thursday, hiding in the ceiling of someone’s apartment in Ikorodu area of Lagos state.
The young man who is said to have been handed over to the Police, broke into the room of a resident in the community and hid himself in the ceiling of the building. He was planning an attack on the resident.

The man was beaten blue-black an stripped naked. A hammer was also found on him, it was suppose to serve as weapon to attack is victim.
He was later handed over to the Police after the residents had already beaten him, disfigured his face.

Just recently, a man was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Ikorodu, an eyewitness said he was called out from a Hotel in the area and shot dead, another said he was lured to the area on a bike. Other eyewitnesses say the the killing is cult related.
